History
At Statham, we want children across the school to understand their place in the world, and in the long story of human development and a staff who enjoy and are confident in challenging children’s Historical knowledge and understanding. Our History curriculum is underpinned by having a positive growth mindset and developing a resilient approach to maths, have stamina for problem solving and challenges and enjoy being stretched and challenged in their History thinking.
We believe that children make progress in history by developing:
- Their knowledge about the past (this knowledge is often described as ‘substantive knowledge.’
- Their knowledge about how historians investigate the past, and how the construct historical claims, arguments and accounts (often described as ‘disciplinary knowledge’)
- We believe this is best done by meaningful examples and repeated encounters.
